屬于強制密封式閥門,所以在閥門關(guān)閉時,必須向閥瓣施加壓力,以強制密封面不泄漏。當(dāng)介質(zhì)由閥瓣下方進入閥門時,操作力所需要克服的阻力,是閥桿和填料的摩擦力與由介質(zhì)的壓力所產(chǎn)生的推力,關(guān)閥門的力比開閥門的力大,所以閥桿的直徑要大,否則會發(fā)生閥桿頂彎的故障。近年來,從自密封的閥門出現(xiàn)后,截止閥的介質(zhì)流向就改由閥瓣上方進入閥腔,這時在介質(zhì)壓力作用下,關(guān)閥門的力小,而開閥門的力大,閥桿的直徑可以相應(yīng)地減少。同時,在介質(zhì)作用下,這種形式的閥門也較嚴密。我國閥門“三化給”曾規(guī)定,截止閥的流向,一律采用自上而下。
截止閥開啟時,閥瓣的開啟高度,為公稱直徑的25%~30%時,流量已達到zui大,表示閥門已達全開位置。所以截止閥的全開位置,應(yīng)由閥瓣的行程來決定。

截止閥一旦處于開啟狀態(tài),它的閥座和閥瓣密封面之間就不再有接觸,因而它的密封面機械磨損較小,由于大部分截止閥的閥座和閥瓣比較容易修理或更換密封元件時無需把整個閥門從管線上拆下來,這對于閥門和管線焊接成一體的場合是很適用的。介質(zhì)通過此類閥門時的流動方向發(fā)生了變化,因此截止閥的流動阻力較高于其它閥門。
